My Favorite Podcasts
Podcasts make me more productive. I'm able to listen to them and do the dishes; listen and check my emails; listen and fold the laundry. Sometimes, when I'm stalling to get out of bed in the morning, I put a podcast on and I pop right up. If you're like me, you need plenty of podcast content to fill up the otherwise quiet moments where you start to think of all the embarrassing things you've done in your life- and we can't have that, now can we? These are some of my favorites.
1. "You're Wrong About"
This podcast takes recent historical happenings that have a lot of preconceived notions and makes you question what you thought you knew. They aren't conspiracy theories- just a more in depth, well-researched look at things we all thought we knew. My favorite episodes are about the Clinton Impeachment, the D.A.R.E. program, Jeffrey Dahmer, Lorena Bobbitt, Tonya Harding, The O.J. Simpson Trial and D.C. Snipers.
2. "Squirrel Friends Cocktail Hour"
This was once a RuPaul's Drag Race recap podcast that has now branched out to cover all things entertainment. I love to hear Nick and Amanda's takes on everything from musical theater to trash TV to Oscar nominated films.
3. "10K Dollar Day"
Allison and Lulu take turns planing how they would spend $10,000 in 1 day by traveling to different locations around the world. The setup of this podcast is already perfect, but then you throw in their comedic banter and you have podcast gold. Sometimes, when I want to spend money or plan a trip that I'm not able to take in the moment, I put their podcast on and get my retail therapy in vicariously through their imaginary trips. It might seem crazy- but you have to try it for yourself.
4. "The Viall Files"
The host if this podcast, Nick Viall, was once The Bachelor. I'm a big fan of the tv show, but you don't have to be to find this podcast entertaining. People call in to ask Nick relationship advice and he is brutally honest. He fills people in on the things they might not want to admit about themselves or the red flags they are too blind to see.
5. "Conversations With People Who Hate Me"
The host of this show finds people who are arguing publicly on the internet and forces them to have a face-to-face conversation. It turns out, it's a lot easier to find common ground in person.
6. "Scam Goddess"
This is a comedy podcast about small and large scams and hoodwinks. It's hilarious and educational. She also invites people to share (retired) scams they may have been involved in to fallen prey to. Some of the scams are so wild and crazy it's amazing to think people were able to pull them off. You'll be sucked in after 1 episode.
7. "Off the Vine with Kaitlyn Bristowe"
This podcast is pure fun. Host Kaitlyn Bristowe (yes, former bachelorette on ABC) has people confess their most embarrassing moments, celebrates their successes and discusses their darkest times when they thought they might not succeed. She is 100% relatable and I love it.
8. "True Crime Garage"
True Crime is a popular podcast category- but this is my favorite. Well researched, thought provoking, and makes me double check all of my doors and windows are locked.
9. "Inside Trader Joe's"
I'm a Trader Joe's fanatic. This podcast gives you the inside scoop on the company, their products and even sneak peeks. I like to listen to this on my way to Trader Joe's to pump myself up for the big shop. Then, when I get there, I destroy that store with my knowledge and my credit card. (That's normal, right?)
10. "Dolly Parton's America"
In a time of political division within our country, what's one thing we can all come together about? Dolly Parton. Dolly can bring our people together in a way no one else can. This podcast goes into depth about Dolly's ability to unify people.
11. "Strictly Stalking"
It's all in the title. These are stories from victims of stalking. They share the lengths they had to go through to convict their stalkers and the lasting effects it's had on the way they live their life.
12. "My Year in Mensa"
This is a 4 episode mini-series about Jamie Loftus joining the high IQ society, Mensa, and trolling the foundation. It's super interesting.
13. "The No Good, Very Bad Gay Podcast"
Nick Kochanov (of Squirrel Friends Cocktail Hour) catches up on different classic queer films he has never seen before. My favorite episodes are about "Drop Dead Gorgeous", "Legally Blonde", "Gypsy", "Grey Gardens" and "What Ever Happened to Baby Jane".
14. If you don't watch "The Bachelor", you can ignore these last few. Bachelor fans, read on! My favorite Bachelor recap pods are "Bach, Please", "Bachelor Party" and "Here to Make Friends". Listen to all 3 to get every perspective of every moment on every episode. Being a part of #bachelornation is now a year round sporting event, after all.
